Artist Profile

Stoney Parsons

Stoney was a professional stained glass and architectural glass artist for 35 years before moving into painting after the Covid-19 pandemic. Her work focuses on the landscape around her studio in the Somerset/Wiltshire border, which she translates into abstract and semi-abstract works in acrylic, oil, ink and watercolour.

The colour and light aspects which are so important in the design element of glass in architecture, translate successfully into her paintings. The freedom of paint on a canvas after the constrictions of glass design, provide new challenges but the contrast between the looseness of the paint marks and the lines and segments which divide the paintings, enable a push and pull; the eye is taken behind and in front of these sections, as well as through, like with glass.

Notable commissions include a Leonardo window for Felix Dennis’ Garden of Heroes and Villains in Dorsington; the North Window for Holy Trinity Church, Eridge, East Sussex; the Screen and Mirrors for Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Oxfordshire.
